Barbados is a very beautiful island, with a marine ecosystem that’s the most beautiful of them all. Even the shipwrecks form fascinating habitats for the varied marine life.

Topographical explanations tell us that Barbados is a coral island pressed out of the sea by volcanic activity many years ago.  It is mostly a flat coral island with rolling hills and many deep gullies and ridges, with an attractive display of flora and fauna.

Within the coral core of Barbados there is a vast array of caves and underground lakes.  These provide an excellent supply of drinking water that is among the purest in the world.  Two land masses that merged together over the years are what make Barbados geologically exceptional. This, among other anomalies, makes this Caribbean Island quite phenomenal.  Barbados is a geological structure that you will find nowhere else.

The coral shorelines of Barbados, especially the western beaches of fine white sand, beautifully merge along an opal and sometimes turquoise sea. These coral reef fringes along the shoreline are just breathtaking, and provide a first-rate Barbados snorkeling spot. Along the East Coast, lively surf is blown briskly by strong and constant trade winds, while waves pound against a rocky shore. This constant breeze of the trade winds provides Barbados with a mild and pleasant tropical climate.

Snorkeling

Barbados is a very beautiful island, and the marine ecosystem is a splendid sight to see. Here, fringes and reefs blossom with corals, plant life and sponges. The magnificent barrier reef is found less than a mile from shore and is home to thousands of organisms and gorgeously colorful fishes. Even non-aquatic species make these splendid beaches their homes. Expect to meet gulls feeding on fishes if you’re in Barbados snorkeling.

Don’t spend all your time at the reefs themselves; even the fringes of vegetation can be teeming with aquatic creatures.  The sea horse, frog fish and giant eels (slimy but harmless) can be seen.

Did you know that Barbados was once a pirate haven?  You can expect to find shipwrecks that have become home to hundreds of small fishes.  In fact, about 200 pirate shipwrecks are reported to dot the beaches of Barbados.  Do plan to snorkel here and enjoy the view of these fantastic shipwrecks.

Introducing the Snuba

Learn how you can save a boatload of money on every cruise you take

Your eyes are not playing tricks on you, it says “Snuba”.  So, what is Snuba?  Snuba is a unique and patented shallow water diving system that bridges the gap between snorkeling and scuba diving. It is easy, safe and does not require certification. There is no heavy diving gear, because Snuba divers breathe underwater through a 20-foot long air line which is connected to a scuba tank.  The tank is mounted on a raft at the surface and follows your every movement underwater. Sounds interesting? You bet it is.  Just imagine exploring underwater without equipment. You are free to move about and interact with the wildlife around you.

Whether you choose Snuba or traditional snorkeling in Barbados, no other underwater experience even comes close.
