Many people arrive in Jamaica, Puerto Rico, Antilles, Antigua,  or St.-Martin with wildly romantic expectations about its people, only to feel completely disappointed that everyone is dressed in Western clothing, and if there are indeed individuals dressed ethnically, it’s only because they’re selling you something.

This sort of disillusionment is most prevalent in the more populous parts of the Caribbean, such as Barbuda, Puerto Rico, Antilles,  Jamaica, and Guadeloupe, although that’s not to say that these islands really have nothing to offer of Caribbean culture you’ve come to expect.

One good tip needed is to let go of all your preconceived ideas of what the Caribbean culture should be and let personal experience be your guide.

Did you know that the Dominican Republic got its name from the fact that it was discovered on a Sunday?

The Dominican Republic is said to have come from the Latin word “dominus” meaning “lord”. The “Dominic” is usually the name given to a child born on a Sunday, which means “of the Lord”.

Cozumel is an incredible destination for snorkelers. It is sunny on Cozumel an average of 350 days a year.  The water is crystal-clear, with 150- 250 feet of underwater visibility, and a warm 80 degrees or more.  The 200- 500 yards of coral reefs rounds out this fabulous experience.

Popular with tourists, the island of Cozumel is found in the Caribbean Sea, just off the eastern coast of the Yucatan Peninsula and opposite to Playa del Carmen in Mexico.  This flat mass of land is built on porous volcanic rock and is home to a number of endemic species such as the splendid toadfish.
